I came up with this problem and had trouble finding a solution online, so I thought I’d share it with you:
My Multimedia keyboard (With << and >> keys) used to work with iTunes but somehow got messed up and I haven’t been able to associate the keys again with the functions in any media player.
I found this neat program called iTunesKeys at mattberube.com which solved my problem.
You must load the program at start-up however. It allows you to select a function associated with iTunes, then you can use any key to link it to the function, including media-keys on a multimedia-enabled keyboard.
