I recently finished reading “The Falls” by Ian Rankin. I would consider it to be an interesting crime novel. It includes particularly interesting elements of history into the book, and is very well written.
The plot is concise, and I found no immediately-evident holes. There was an excellent use of Scottish history, and quite an extensive vocabulary, including Scottish phrases and words.
One thing I thought was a bit bothersome was the fact that from 3/4 of the book, till about 30 pages before the end, the pace seemed to slow down a lot. Everything seemed to stagnate, and the characters didn’t seem quite well to know what they were doing, or seemed to be getting nowhere. Considering this is a crime novel, a large book, and written by a respectable author, I find it amusing to see this kind of problem. However, it was just a small one in the whole picture.
I would rate the book 3.5/5 in a general scale.
War Crimes were criminall acts that were punished, for example, at the Nuremberg Trials. It is a crime to kill a man, therefore one can only assume that anyone involved in a war is a criminal sooner or later. I can only go on to think that sargeants, major-generals, and other people in similar or higher ranked army posts are also criminals? Why? For knowingly sending a man to commit murder, being aware of the implications, and not doing anything to stop it, but rather the opposit, foment and applaud it.
There is no such thing as war crimes, as war itself is a crime when you really analyse it. Just stop murder, final.
Mexican businessman Alejandro Marti’s 14-year-old son Fernando was kidnapped and murdered in 2008, even though his family had reportedly paid a ransom.
He has spoken to the BBC about the violent crime in Mexico, and why he still chooses to live there.

OK, so you are walking down the street, and make a brief stop at an ATM to withdraw some cash. On the way out two cops “withdraw” the money from you… That’s injustice.
It did not happen to me, but to a friend of mine, and it infuriates me how this world we live in becomes further more violent every day; no matter the efforts to make things better, society seems to want to deteriorate.
In this city I live in, you can’t trust in those who supposedly defend you, you can’t trust in justice, you can’t trust in the law, as all laws are overriden by those who execute its powers.
Let’s take a stance. No more violence, no more crime, no more envy, no more fighting. Do not empower an idiocracy. Let’s think progress.
